Pravila Zhizni: a fresher look, the same voice
Two tasks for Pravila Zhizni, a Russian magazine about culture and life: refresh a social-media rubric and make a collage cover for a long read — both within the magazine’s existing style.

«Good News», refreshed
The magazine’s social-media rubric, redesigned: a cover and three cards for one carousel.
The problem. The rubric’s design looked dated and needed a refresh.
The idea. Make it fresher and more modern, but keep it instantly recognisable: hold on to what readers know — the pink cover and the four-column grid — and change what made it flat: plain white cards and one stretched photo. Good-news photos are often low-quality or just screenshots, so a single big image wasn’t the answer.
What I did
— A hidden 16-column grid under the old one. Shifts and overlaps look free, but all of them follow the system.
— Light grey from the brand palette instead of white, with faint hand-drawn suns, flowers and fish — a quiet reminder that this rubric is about good things.
— Several smaller images toned in the brand colours instead of one stretched photo. One leads, the rest add rhythm.

The 1990s, in collage
A collage cover for a long read on how the image of the 1990s has changed — and why films keep coming back to the decade.
The task. Turn the article into a picture: a cover collage in the magazine’s style and brand palette, delivered in three formats.
The idea. The article paints the 90s as a contradiction: anxiety and instability — and at the same time freedom, rebellion and romance. I wanted the collage to convey that mood rather than illustrate the plot, and to let the opposites clash, like the era did. Pravila Zhizni collages are usually airy, but this text is dense — so the cover could be dense too.
What I did
— A dense mix of archive photos and textures, with a clear hierarchy so it never turns into chaos.
— Frames in the background colour around the main blocks — they add air and separate the elements.
— A halftone portrait of Danila Bagrov, toned into the background. You notice him only if you look closely — a ghost of the era.
